Groton Biosystems supplies a multiplexed Automated Reactor Sampling (ARS™) System for the Agilent 1200 Series LC System for online HPLC assays. The two companies have collaborated to create a closed-loop solution for monitoring cell culture and fermentation near real time in biotech and pharmaceutical systems. The Agilent 1200 Series LC System and the Groton Biosystems ARS help ensure proper feeding of reactors and fermentors, optimizes product yield, and enables companies to follow the FDA's PAT Initiative.

Groton Biosystems and Novozymes North America are collaborating to provide biofuel customers online process monitoring capabilities. These state-of-the-art monitors will be critical for enzyme and ethanol yield optimization. The collaboration will provide automated near real time online monitoring to commercial fuel ethanol plants. This technology will allow the ability to monitor sugars, ethanol and organic acids in multiple fermentation tanks using Groton Biosystems' unique and proprietary process for sampling high solids, high viscosity fluids in biofuel production applications. The ability to continuously sample and analyze the fermentation process will increase the efficiency and productivity of the fuel ethanol process.

Groton Biosystems and Shimadzu have partnered to enhance ethanol monitoring systems. The collaboration is focusing on the interface of the ARS series online sampling monitors with Shimadzu's Prominence HPLC (high performance liquid chromatograph) to form a closed-loop solution for online analysis. Manufacturers will be able to quickly and efficiently optimize enzyme levels in mash by incorporating this system into the bio-ethanol production process. With this automated HPLC ethanol monitoring system, manufacturers can determine the appropriate times to add enzymes with only a few key strokes. Optimized enzymes yield more product and limit the formation of useless by-products. This system will function in the high-solids/high-viscosity environment found in both corn and biomass fermentations.

and ELECTRIC POWER RESEARCH INSTITUTE (EPRI)

Groton Technology, Radiological Solutions (RSI), and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) are collaborating to develop online monitoring systems for nuclear reactor cooling water.  This technology will provide a direct, online system for monitoring water chemistry in nuclear plant streams in order to detect early indicators of system contamination and corrosion.

YSI Life Sciences and Groton Biosystems work together to offer the cell culture and fermentation scientist innovative combinations of YSI analyzers and Groton Biosystems Automated Reactor Sampling (ARS) Systems to provide around-the-clock online sampling and measurement for process development and production environments. The 2700 ARS and 7100 ARS improve process knowledge while making more productive use of time. Integrate up to eight bioreactors in an online analytic system which provides sanitary sampling and automated cleaning. Sampling intervals and analytic parameters are user-programmable for each reactor. Analytes measured include up to 2 of the following for the 2700 ARS (Glucose, L-Lactate, L-Glutamate, L-Glutamine, Sucrose, Ethanol, Methanol, Lactose, Galactose, Choline, or Hydrogen peroxide) and up to 6 of the following for the 7100 ARS (Glucose, L-Lactate, L-Glutamate, L-Glutamine, Ammonium, Potassium, Ethanol, Sucrose, Galactose or Methanol).

The ARS system can interface to a variety of bioreactors, fermentors, and other process liquids.
